5 foods that cause oily hair and 3 prevent it

When we have to deal with oily hair, we usually end up using special shampoos, hiding our hair in ponytails, or washing it frequently. But there are a few other tricks that can help you deal with excess fat without much effort. For example, eating certain foods can decrease the amount of oil produced, while other types of foods can increase it.

Foods to avoid:


sugar




Hormones are the messengers in our body that help control almost all the processes that occur within us. That is why it is important to keep them in balance. Sugar is not a product that helps with that. It actually works the other way around by creating an imbalance when it comes to hormones. That is why instead of helping, it affects inflammatory processes in the body and increases blood sugar levels, which stimulates the glands to produce more fat.

Refined carbohydrate




There are good (or complex) carbohydrates and bad (or simple) carbohydrates. Refined carbohydrates are related to the second group: bad carbohydrates. A good example of refined foods with starch is bread: white bread made from refined grains is softer and fluffier than bread made from whole grains.

Therefore, refined grains are grains that are processed by manufacturers to make them softer and less heavy.

The sad part of this is that these carbohydrates overload our bodies with the work of processing carbohydrates. This process causes the sebaceous glands to overproduce oil and we end up with an oily scalp.

Fried foods




Any fried meal, especially fried and fast food load our body with oil due to the overstimulation of the sebaceous glands.

The oil produced by the skin is covered with additional oil, including the scalp.

So eating a fast-food burger at night can turn your hair into a sticky mess overnight. You should not only avoid eating these foods to make your diet healthier, but also to make your hair look sleeker.

Dairy products



Oddly enough, dairy can also be blamed for producing excess fat.

This is all because dairy products like milk, butter, and cheese are digested by our bodies in the form of oils and fats, leaving us with sticky hair and breakouts on our faces. They also contain ingredients associated with an excessive amount of testosterone, which also affects the production of excess fat.

Therefore, a glass of warm whole milk in the evening may make you need an urgent hair wash in the morning.

Salt




Consuming too much salt causes puffiness, puffiness under the eyes, dandruff, and general dryness of the body. The last point causes the body to produce more oil to combat the lack of water. Again, all this ends up causing greasy and sticky hair, especially in those who are prone to it. That is why it is important to pay attention to the consumption of salty crackers, chips, and nuts because they contain excess salt.

Foods rich in vitamins B and E




Vitamins B and E are among the essential vitamins for our body and hair. Not only does it help hair grow strong and beautiful, but it also regulates the production of additional oils, which make your hair look better. Foods like beans, vegetables, and fruits are rich in B vitamins, and these foods help keep your hair looking amazing.

Vitamin E can be found in green leafy vegetables, sunflower seeds, and walnuts.

Foods rich in zinc




Our body needs zinc in small amounts and this mineral is not stored in us.

The good news is that increasing your intake of zinc-rich products can help combat your body’s oil production. You can find zinc in supplements, however, it is also available in natural foods such as oats, oysters, and eggs.

Having an oily hair type does not mean that you have to completely stop eating fat. Fats are an important component for the proper functioning of our body. You only need to regulate the consumption of saturated and trans fats. They are easy to identify because they tend to remain solid at room temperature. Therefore, margarine, butter, and animal fats are all trans fats. Replace them with “good” fats like nuts, vegetable oils, and some types of fish.
